This morning I got a tip Arcade Fire was about to release a new song NOT off the new record expected later this year, but rather a song relating to Donald Trump’s (highly regrettable) inauguration tomorrow. Now it has happened! Arcade Fire has released a terrific song called “I Give You Power” featuring the living legend Mavis Staples. It kind of reminds me of Bowie and Nine Inch Nails’ thing together, in the best way possible. Catchy beat and love that organ midway through.

It was initially streaming through Tidal exclusively, but now they’ve also added a YouTube video. The lyrics for the song at the bottom of this article.

Remember where we first heard this song in its most scaled down and raw form? Yeah, that gig Win and Régine did in Jardin des Tuileries, Paris on May 25, 2016. We all called it “I Gave You Power” back then, but we know now the correct/final title is “I Give You Power”.

Arcade Fire themselves had this to say about the song.

It’s never been more important that we stick together and take care of each other.
    Love,
    Mavis Staples and Arcade Fire
All proceeds go to ACLU Nationwide

Arcade Fire also switched profile picture on all social media accounts to this picture of an infinity symbol with a copyright symbol in it, also featured on the single cover for this song. On their Instagram they’ve even deleted all previous posts. I’m drawing blanks as to what that means so you’re going to have to draw your own conclusions here. Could this by any chance be something that’s of value going into the new album? Either way, here it is.

Arcade Fire – I Give You Power (feat. Mavis Staples) lyrics:
I give you power
Over me
I give you power
Now I gotta be free
I give you power
and now I say
I give you power
I can take it away
I can take it away

woo!

I give you power
(I give you power)
Over me
(Over me)
I give you power
(I give you power)
Now I gotta be free
(But I gotta be free)
I give you power
(I give you power)
But now I say
(But now I say)
I give you power
(I give you power)
I can take it away
(I can take it away)
I can take it away
(Watch me)
Take it away
(Watch me)
I can take it away
(Watch me)
Take it away
(Watch me now)

I give you power
(I give you power)
Over me
(Over me)
I give you power
(I give you power)
Now I gotta be free
(I gotta be free)
I give you power
(I give you power)
But now I say
(But now I say)
I give you power
(I give you power)
I can take it away
(I can take it away)
I can take it away!

I give you power
Over me
I give you power
But I gotta be free
(Gotta be free)
I give you power
Now I say
I can watch you
Take it away

woo!

I give you power
(I give you power)
Over me
(Over me)
I give you power
(I give you power)
But I gotta be free
(I gotta be free)
I give you power
(I give you power)
But now I say
(Now I say)
I give you power
(I give you power)
I can take it away
(I can take it away)
I can take it away!

Well…

I give you power
(Power!)
Where d’you think it all comes from?
Huh?
Who gives you power?
(Power)
Where do you think it all comes from?
I give you power

I can take it all away
I can take it away
(Take it away)
Watch me
(Take it away)
Watch me
(Take it away)
Watch me now
(Take it away)
Watch me
