Arcade Fire played a secret gig last night
Montreal Gazette reports on something I’ve been working on confirming all day, Arcade Fire played a secret gig in Montreal last night.
- Arcade Fire played a top-secret show in Montreal on Saturday night, previewing songs from its as yet untitled new album for approximately 50 guests.
Invitees were summoned to a space on Parthenais St., where they were asked to check their cellphones at the door. The band played for over an hour, unveiling a half-dozen new songs and weaving in material from its last two albums, Reflektor and The Suburbs. The new music exhibited pop and electronic influences in the vein of Reflektor, according to one lucky attendee.
Arcade Fire has a habit of playing secret concerts for friends in the run-up to album releases. No release date has been announced for the band’s highly anticipated fifth full-length. This past weekend’s show could mean the promotional machine is about to be set in motion for a release in early summer; or it may just have been a warm-up gig for the group’s European tour, which begins June 3 in Barcelona. À suivre.
Been told they were shooting a video of some sort last night too, probably connects with this. Lots of things happening last few weeks behind the scenes.
