Arcade Fire announce new album Everything Now!

EVERYTHING NOW, out July 28th.

Arcade Fire have announced their 5th studio album, Everything Now, will be released on July 28th through Columbia Records / Sony Music Entertainment (Here’s my piece on their label situation). Pre-order now on EverythingNow.com – and sign up for the newsletter there too. There are A LOT of options and formats to chose from. Physical copies will come with one of 20 artwork variations with the record’s title EVERYTHING NOW in a different language. A limited edition “Night” package will also be available, together with CD and colored vinyl. Have a look! I chose the Chinese version.

“The new album is Arcade Fire’s first release under its new partnership with the global media and e-commerce platform Everything Now in synergy with the Sony Corporation” – whatever that means…

The artwork above features an installation from world-renowned artist JR.

That desert is Death Valley, CA. I love the album art, so pretty and clever. Montreal-based graphic design studio Ping Pong Ping has designed the album, based on JR’s work.

This is clearly not a coincidence. Karl Friedrich Schinkel’s stage set for Mozart’s Magic Flute v “Everything Now”

The single is streaming on all available services like Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal etc. And they of course also released a video for it, directed by The Sacred Egg. If not all of it then at least partly shot in South Africa.

Great stuff!

We first thought Arcade Fire had sampled that pan flute in Francis Bebey’s “The Coffee Cola Song” but it turns out they had tracked down his son, Patrick Bebey, who played the pan flute bit just as in his dad’s song. Pretty awesome.

No wonder the single sounds amazing as it’s produced by Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter, Pulp’s Steve Mackey, Portishead’s Geoff Barrow, and the band’s longtime producer Markus Dravs (listed as a co-producer).

The full credits for the single “Everything Now”. Worth pointing out Thomas Bangalter also plays synth on the track.

Interviews with Win:

“There’s sort of an everything-nowness to life. I feel like almost every event and everything that happens surrounds you on all sides, it’s trying to capture some of the experiences of being alive now in all its flaws and all its glory.”

Win also calls this record the most coherent yet. The band recorded the new record at Boombox Studios in New Orleans, Sonovox Studios in Montreal and the Gang Recording Studio in Paris.

The band’s also releasing a 12″ orange vinyl of the single Everything Now, available in record shops. Limited edition of 2,000 copies.

The band played a surprise warm-up gig on the grounds of the Primavera Festival in Barcelona on June 1st just as they announced the single/album/tour and all (Everything Now!). They’re headlining it later today (Sat, June 3rd). Anyway this is was the setlist with two new songs on it – “Everything Now” and “Creature Comfort”.

Setlist – Arcade Fire – warm-up for Primavera Sound at Parc del Forum, Barcelona, Spain.

Here’s some videos from it on their new 360 stage they built up just for this set and they’ll continue to use for the dates where they can use it.

The unreleased song “Creature Comfort” sounds amazing as well, so good. Can’t wait for this album.
