Arcade Fire’s stage design

Arcade Fire have a brand new stage design for their dates around Europe this summer. Moment Factory, which Arcade Fire have worked with in the past on their Reflektor tour and their Coachella 2011 performance (you remember the LED balls right?), are once again behind the main piece on stage. We’ve so far called it a glas box but we should call it a smoke box.

Moment Factory has designed a set that will augment the dimension on stage with unexpected multimedia effects orchestrated inside a “smoke box”. The 11 meters long and 3 meters tall “smoke box” will conjure life-size optical illusions and surprising scenes with an automated LED screen, lighting, lasers and pyro smoke effects. A mesmerizing combination blurring the line between this reality and another.

Tarik Mikou, designer and show director had this to say.

Great job to everyone involved! Clever idea. It has looked great. Some shots below, more here:

That curtain-wall backdrop with foreshortened room contained in it bears a strong resemblance to the stage-set of Bowie’s musical, Lazarus, in which the studio band was sort of housed “out the window” from the apartment in which the action unfolds. Nicely done.
